Ten Things White People Can Do About Ferguson Besides Tweet

In case people have a thing against clicking links, a basic summary:

1. Protest, peacefully, wherever you are.

2. Quoting directly from the article: “Recognize that Michael Brown’s death was not an isolated incident.” Also consider reading the suggested column to the side, “Black Women Are Killed By Police, Too”

3. Dispel the notion that this is ‘Murica and shit like this doesn’t happen in ‘Murica.

4. Again, a quote: “STFU about looting.” Just no.

5. Pay attention to your local authorities, how they act toward certain people, and be ready to document it.

6. Donate to a civil rights organization you trust.

8. Lobby the hell out of your politicians.

9. LISTEN to your black friends/acquaintances/people you see on the news.

10. Social media

thank you, anon! :) I hope you have a great week!

30 Days of Doctor Who - Day 20
Think of the last movie you saw. Would the protagonist be a good companion? Or maybe they’d be the villain?

When I first saw this meme, The Book Thief was the last movie I saw. (Hate grammar and verb tenses sometimes.) And I’m too in love with the idea to give it up for a proper, timely answer. (That, and I’m writing ahead, to allow for my move back to college.)

Liesel Meminger would absolutely be the kind of person the Doctor would want as a friend. She’s not anyone "important" but at the same time…she is to the people who love her. Liesel does her small part to make the world she lives in better. Not because it’s easy — but because it is the right thing to do. It’s the human thing to do.

Liesel is curious. And, does that word fit the Doctor to a ‘t’! She reads with a passion. She wants to understand why people do things. She doesn’t buy into everything her environment is trying to teach her. Liesel lets her own experiences inform her worldview. The books she ‘steals’ are to help a friend. A Jewish friend, who she considers family. She writes and tells stories in honor of him.

Liesel wouldn’t be a full-time companion. I think the Doctor would pop in and out of her life periodically. Tell her wondrous adventures, which she would pass along to Rudy and Max. She’d want her friends to go with her, if the Doctor invited her. And if Rudy went along? Boy, the two of them would run.

The Doctor would take her on a special trip, only her, to The Library. Before the Vashta Nerada corrupt the planet. And I think he’d very carefully — aware of spoilers — point out certain titles that were burned in front of her eyes, just to let her know that they endure. To give her hope. Because he knows the world she lives in and that a girl like her would need it.

Because of various time-sensitive adventures, he’d lose track of Liesel and Rudy. The last time he’d see them would be right after the aborted runaway attempt. The next time he returned to see Liesel, she would have lost her whole world in the span of a night. And she wouldn’t have seen him for years. He’d have been alone for a very, very long time, and hate that she had to be essentially alone. That he hadn’t been able to visit or do anything. But he’d be so proud of her. And so happy for her that Max was able to return.

The Doctor would keep an eye on her, as he could, for the rest of her days. They’d swap stories, and book recommendations. She’d never go traveling with him again, but he’d bring around some of the most wondrous people to visit. He would be proud of the book thief, and how she endured and continued to show the best of humanity in one of the worst times of mankind. The Doctor would share her story and Liesel Meminger would be remembered.

I hate commenting on posts so much but I cannot even explain my reaction to this because it’s that good.

The Doctor being Liesel’s one confidant as her parents being to separate for her father’s safety, when her mother or brother get sick, when the compound they’re staying in doesn’t promote strong relationships between people who aren’t family. The Doctor literally falls into her life one day when she’s like six and he’s captivated by her innate curiosity.

He finds her randomly after her brother’s death and he realizes that he never told her he has a time machine and now he never can.

But it slips, when she’s twelve and thirteen and has this innate feeling that the world’s going to end so he tells her no, it doesn’t, and he thinks of Nancy and her son in London and how just this once, everybody lives! He doesn’t know, he can’t know about the bombings. Not yet.

When Max leaves she cries for him and says you have to know SOMETHING about him, tell me! and he can’t. And Hans goes to war and she begs again.

And then the bombs come. She’s a wreck in his arms screaming “Take me back!” and consoling Rose about her dead father was one thing but this is something he never could have imagined. He can’t and she swears she hates him, that she’ll never see him again.

He checks in on her after the war, with Max safe by her side. They don’t speak, just smile, and then he’s off.

Do I believe in Heaven: Um, I’d like to. I like the idea of the rainbow bridge, and seeing all of my pets again when I die. I hope that’s heaven.

First time you had a crush: oh god, i’m so old I can’t remember. I was probably like ten, and there was a kid in my mother’s bowling league (he was some kind of bowling genius which is why they let him into the adult league). I can’t remember much about him now.

How do you like your steak cooked: I like it raw, as in still a cow, because I’m vegetarian.

Thing to cook: Pasta!!!!

Food: I like chocolate more than anything else.

Flower: tulips.

colour: blue

did you answer all these truthfully? Yep

Anonymous asked: "Who are you getting your Ferguson information from? I'm having problems verifying what's actually happening!"

That’s actually what’s taking me so long to update some of my posts; not only is the information surfacing slowly about his case specifically, but I make sure to cross reference at least three sources because some people are just blatantly lying to stir shit up.

Also live feeds keep going down and new ones pop back up but I know some of you are sensitive to video, so

Here’s a list of some twitter handles:

Journalists (All of these are either on the ground in Ferguson as I type this or actively covering events in Ferguson, both Brown’s case and the rallies):

Instagram Accounts: (TW: Some of these accounts feature graphic video or images of Ferguson events)

Tumblr Accounts:

I’m sure I forgot a bunch but here’s a start. I’ll update it periodically and reblog. Some of it is compilations from a bunch of sources, some is original content. Disclaimer: I’m not vouching for any other content on any of these blogs/twitters/instagrams or any that may be posted after this list but as of right now, the information regarding Ferguson and discussions taking place about the rallies/police and Mike Brown’s death seems accurate.

if you want to be included on any of these lists, shoot me a message with your web-address and I’ll check it out

You will find everything I’ve posted under tagged/ferguson, tagged/police-brutality or tagged/michael-brown

updated and combined.
